WCAG 2.2 Accessibility audit for Multi-Step Online Web Forms for an Australian website!

Brief

An Australian state government required accessibility audit for a suite of highly detailed 7 digital forms designed for extensive public data collection and validation workflows.

Challenges

7 Complex Multi-Page Form Structure

Each form contained between 30 to 50 pages with advanced interactive behavior, conditional logic, and secure save-and-return functionality.

Dynamic User Interactions

Fields and controls changed dynamically based on selected options, requiring accessibility verification for live content updates and changing form states.

Extensive Scenario-Based Testing

Because each form contained multiple decision paths and validation combinations, the project required repeated testing cycles using varied interaction scenarios.

Australian government required secure individual identity-based access and for testing data dependency on client.

Solution

Manual Accessibility Audit

It was conducted across all critical workflows and interaction states. Testing included keyboard navigation evaluation, screen reader compatibility, focus order evaluation, dynamic content accessibility behavior, error identification and feedback review, mobile accessibility, zoom and responsive behavior, and accessible authentication workflow.

Instead of testing only static pages, accessibility validation was performed across realistic user journeys involving conditional field rendering, multi-step progression, invalid input handling, session continuation, and form resubmission scenarios.

Accessibility audit was done using screen readers (NVDA, VoiceOver), along with tools such as WAVE, Google Lighthouse, Adobe Acrobat, and PAC for PDF testing, aligned with WCAG 2.2 Level AA success criteria.

Re-audit validation

Following remediation updates, all previously identified accessibility concerns were re-evaluated to confirm accessibility improvements and verify compliance alignment.

ACR for web forms

Accessibility findings were documented within these reports. It provided structured accessibility evaluation details for compliance tracking and stakeholder review.

Impact

The project helped strengthen accessibility usability across a highly interactive digital forms environment while supporting WCAG 2.2 Level AA accessibility objectives.

Through detailed manual evaluation, iterative verification cycles, and structured accessibility reporting, the organization gained clear visibility into accessibility performance across complex forms workflows and user interaction states.
